Discover The Appeal Of The Thundercats And Similar Brands

In the middle of the 1980's a cartoon series was aired which proved to be extremely popular with young boys. The name of the characters in the cartoon was the Thundercats. The success of the series was long lasting, but as with all such things it eventually was taken off the mainstream channels and hardly ever got screened.

Although it looked to be all over for the Thundercats events proved otherwise. The fact that it did have lasting appeal meant that children continued to want to engage with the brand. Of course in todays digital age the availability of images and re-runs is like never before.

Not only that, but it is obvious from the merchandising toys and accessories surrounding the Thundercats brand that these characters still have lasting appeal. You can collect original Tundercats toys, or you can select from a whole host of new Thundercats toys released by Bandai.

As a result the Thundercats provides a good lesson in brand longevity and the power of the brand, despite the original transmission methodology passing from view. Hardly any children today, even though they themselves may play continually with Thundercats toys, will be aware of the origin of the series or how long ago it originally aired.

The success of the Thundercats may however be simply down to a great original concept for the characters. It is perhaps easy to see why this should be so. These brave athletic cats fighting against evil is great for strong imagery and lasting appeal, especially for young kids.

This may well be the reason for the continued appeal of the brand. A supposition perhaps best tested by reviewing other such success stories in the realm of childrens cartoon characters. Where else has such success be down to the strong original concept.

In order to find an example of another brand success story is easy. Simply ask young children. My own 5 year old son for instance loves everything Ben 10. Now Ben 10 has been around longer than he has, but the strength of the concept is such that this makes no difference to him at all. He still loves it.

Spiderman is perhaps the best example of all of the power of a strong concept on the brand success later. There are probably more Spiderman toys available today than at any point in the history of the Spiderman story. The success of the Spiderman movies is also a good indicator. But there are many other brand examples of similar strength to choose.

So overall it seems to be clear that one of the key factors in the longevity of a brands appeal is down to the strength and appeal that the original concept has to young kids. If the kids find the original concept appealing they will keep the brand alive for many years to come, even if the brand owners do not make any further significant investment in the brand.
