It cannot creak or anything that makes it seem like its cheaply made. The Newair A/C cools the majority of my apartment and take forever either. Wish there was a method to flip the lights within the display off. The control panel is extremely helpful. The area is probably 4 meters by 5 meters with typical height ceiling. Firstly, let me state that I hate the heat; I find it unbearable and a nuisance. I was recommended this by a friend and it's been a life-saver. Mine did not work long enough for that to happen. It is probably the type of switch; rotary, with no preset speeds. You open the sponge compartment and find that the bottom part of the sponge is still quite wet. The quick solution to this is to just add a little water at the top of the sponge and be done with it. So we decided to run only one at a time and swap out batteries for a total of 10 hours run time on high. The sponge is a hassle to remove out of the mesh bag and wet it and then put back while constantly moving with our pack. He's been using it and I'm so happy about cause he doesn't always like what I buy. Even more importantly the complaining's died down! I am very pleased with this product and the customer service is remarkable. My first fan hiccupped and was rather loud. I have to say that standard misting fans are great if you're out at the beach or something, but if you don't want to get wet it can't be used. The way the handy cooler is designed gives you the same effect but without the wetness hitting you.
